It’s been one year since Technorati introduced tags, a method for categorising posts on blogs on the internet, further increasing the popularity of metablogging and the decentralised web. Sounds like a good idea, but – with me being lazy – I put off tagging my posts, as it was an extra 2-3 lines of code added to every post. It’s not a problem if my blog was a WordPress one (don’t start all you WP whores), as categories have been popular for ages, but for us Blogger, Livejournal (I think) and Myspace bloggers (amongst others), it’s a pain in the arse.
So I did something about it.
Behold the Technorati Tag Generator. It’s quite a simple program that allows you to generate HTML code for tags from a list of words. It also allows the creation of prefixes and suffixes (which can be saved) which are added to the code at the beginning or the end (this allows different styles to be made). Once the code is generated, it can be exported to any HTML editor, by copying it to the clipboard.
The installation comes with full source code (in JustBASIC).
Please note the file is a RAR file, which means you need WinRAR to extract it. Click here to download it.

Well I guess I’ll be the first non computer wiz to chime in on this thread. I have downloaded the file but I don’t seem to have a way to open a RAR File, or at least I don’t think I do.
I have never fooled around with JustBASIC, so I am completely in the dark on this.

I installed WinRAR, then attempted to run the Exe in the folder. I got the error message above.

i am just new in the blogging world and we noticed that you have a great tool according to the comments above. could you please enlighten us on how to use the tag generator on a step by step basis? i have already downloaded it and dont know what to do with it. please help, thanks
I’m with “Rom.” I’ve gotten to where I’ve at least reached the “generate” and “copy to clipboard” section, but I don’t know where to copy the info to. I would assume it is to my blog “edit HTML” in my templates but even then, I’ve copied it to a couple places and nothing happens. More step-by-step instructions would help. THX!
Funny. I figured it out and will attempt to write down my steps — I’ll do what I can. Up above in Rhys’ instructions, I clicked and downloaded where it says, “click here to download” then I downloaded WinRAR. Somewhere after that I found the file technorati tag generator.exe file (this is the part I don’t remember — maybe I extracted first??) and I clicked on it to open it. Up popped the picture that is shown above — you will see “prefix, suffix, URL,” etc. and can then add the “label” or “tag” that you want to correlate with the post you write. Once I typed in the appropriate tags, I clicked on “generate” then copy to clipboard,” went into my blog and “edit posts.” I picked an old post and in the box where you type the body of the post, I pasted the text I just copied from the tag generator box (using control V) .

How far can you get rom? Do you get the window shown in the image within the post?
If so, you can follow Rhonda’s steps. They are great
1. Open Program
2. Add a prefix or a suffix to your tags
3. Type out list of tags (comma separated)
4. Click “Generate”
5. Click “Copy to clipboard”
6. Go to the blog post which the tag relates to.
7. Paste it in to post at the bottom.

I don’t seem to be able to paste into the text input box: all pastes go into the output box
Typing straight into the program works fine.
I have the commercial version of winzip and it handled the rar file fine.
The program screen breaks up and can be hard to read at times, but this hasn’t affected usuablity (once I figured out I couldn’t paste text)

this tool not need to install, simply unpack the archive you download in a folder that you want and execute the exe file.
The tool will not install any bad feature like troyan, spyware, etc…
