We Wish You A Merry Christmas And A Happy New Year

At what point does it become okay to stop saying two statements when seeing somebody new for the first time in a year:-

  • Happy New Year
  • Did You Have A Good Christmas?

Somebody today asked me the latter question. Christmas does seem so long ago that I forgot. I mean, I gave the whole “yeah it was nice, spent it with the family” schpiel I usually give, but if they would’ve said “no, really, what did happen over Christmas?” I would’ve tripped up quite badly.

It’s the same with New Year. I’ve been back at work for a week now, and the year doesn’t seem all that new. I’ve got over the phase of still writing 2006.

In my opinion, Christmas and Happy New Year ends on 12th night. Why should you drag it out even further? Though there are still decorations up in some businesses in Colwyn Bay. When do you think?

EDIT: It’s amazing how bloggers think the same thing at the same time….

Twelfth Night sounds good to me. Now that Christmas apparently begins at Halloween, I’m ready to say goodbye to it by the time the DAY arrives. I really liked it better when US Thanksgiving was the beginning of the holiday season.

Simple solution: Tell them you are a Chinese Jew, and as such didnt celebrate either.

  3. Sonja says:

I get sad when I see the abandoned Christmas trees stripped of their decorations lying sadly on the curb, waiting for trash pickup.
Other than that…so happy not to have to hear Christmas music everywhere I go. How many versions of “Jingle Bells” could there possibly be?????
