nAL: No you’re not wrong. You’re supposed to give up something that you enjoy, that is generally considered bad for you. Of course, if Sayre goes from little chocolate to zero chocolate, then that’s still good

However, I’ve found that I’m eating a lot more crisps (potato chips) than normal!

Hey Sayre (or anyone), maybe you could set me straight here – but I thought the point was to give up something you loved and couldn’t live without for Lent, as a sign of identifying with the sufferings of Christ in the wilderness.

So if you give up alcohol because you don’t drink much, or are not suppose to have it because of medication does that really count?

I can see why giving up chocolate is a sacrifice for Rhys, the man with the chocolate advent calendar

Or am I, as a non-practitioner of Lent, missing something here?

Holy cow – they need to change M & S Food to S&M food. That video was downright obscene.

Good luck with the chocolate. My husband couldn’t do it – he’s a chocoholic of the first order.

I could give up alcohol for Lent… I’m not much of a drinker anyway and I’ve been on medication that doesn’t allow alcohol in any form whatsoever. Unfortunately, it also made me break out in hives after 7 days to the point where I felt like the Elephant Man. I could definitely do with a good stiff drink, but am not allowed to at all until another 3 days have passed. Damn.

Meh – I can give up chocolate – I only ever eat it 3 days before my period because I crave it. Other than that i lead a pretty chocolate free lifestyle.

I’m not christian so I don’t partake in Lent thus will be happy in hell as I know I’ve lived a goo life without having to give up anything I love!

Hey, this post reminded me that I always wanted to know what “scouse” means. The Monkees had a song many milennia ago called “Randy Scouse Git” and I have no idea what that means. The lyrics don’t help either.
Can you help this Yank understand the meaning of the word and song title????

I feel your pain about giving chocolate. I’ve given it up for Lent too, along with bread and cake (though I’m allowing cake for my birthday). It’s very tough when people keep giving me food! Gambatte Kudasai (Keep up the hard work)!
