are you crazy? do you think having a laptop means you won't have the same posture problems!! laptops cause even worse posture problems than desktops ( and that using a chair as well..) think very carefully about what you're doing..you should really have a laptop-stand and a detachable keyboard..

You might like to check out this neat Ergonomic Chair Selector that I stumbled upon recently. Look after your back and it will look after you..... Or at least it will not hurt so much.

Manuel: The problem I have at the moment is with my desktop my back gets no support, plus I'm sitting at an awkward angle. I do understand what Sonja's saying too regarding putting a chair by my desk, but it makes life just very difficult for me, as there is no space to move (we did try that first to begin with, but in the end I ended up sitting on my bed anyway.

I have actually done a fairly unique step the last few days: use the computer less. I actually find out that I've become a lot more productive, and my back is feeling better.

Still want a laptop though!

I actually have better posture with my desktop. With my laptop, which I usually use, I sit on the sofa with my back twisted in all kinds of directions.

I think the bog blogger is an ingenious idea. You could do a bog roll review... erm and rate your bog experience out of ten. I'd vote that blog for an award

Hi Rhys!
No wonder your back hurts and you may be causing permanent damage to the discs in your spine. I hate to be the wet blanket, but I'm afraid a laptop wouldn't be the best thing for you either because it will encourage bad postural habits due to its portability; also laptops are not ergonomic because you can't adjust the height / comfort of the keyboard or screen in relation to each other. I have been through all of this myself,it took time and patience to find exactly the right position for my back and neck to be comfortable.

I see your desk has a knee space; can you just move the computer CPU to the top of the desk where the screen is now, then move the screen above the knee space and get a chair? Then move the tv to where the monitor is now. That would be a cheaper way to go and you could control your posture much better that way.

I know you really want that new laptop! But it won't fix your back problem!

To be honest I've voted for much easier things in my life!! Good luck bog blogger, but it may not help. I have a latop. Atm, I'm lying across my bed and the latop is on the ground. Hardly good posture I'm imagining.

"youth" is a very varied category - imagine the crap they'd get in there!

Dcssec
Good man! but no to dells too, they might be cheap (and come with linux!) but if the battery/powersupply goes it'd be cheaper to buy a whole new laptop!

Rhys

If I've read the Metro Terms and Conditions correctly, you only need one nomination to be entered for the awards. It's not a "most nominations wins" thing.

I think the eight categories they've chosen are awful. Most blogs aren't specialist, so most people don't stand a chance of winning.

And the five judging criteria are biased towards successful, influential blogs. "Quality of writing" counts for only 20% of the judge's marks.

If you ask me, the awards are a badly-aimed misjudged promotional exercise, designed merely to get UK bloggers talking about them...
