Childhood Ambitions – I Wanted To Be A Rubbish Wrestler

I really wanted to be a wreslter in the early 90′s. Basically, my mate got Sky, and I was transfixed by musclebound men in swimming trunks (in a non-gay way).

However, as a child, I was scared of getting hurt.

The week later, we got sky, and we were watching wrestling. Anyway I was just saying to my mum and dad “I WANNA BE A WRESTLER!”, jumping on and off the couch, that kind of thing that a sugared up child of the 90′s would do.

However, something happened that made me give up the dream.

The Undertaker locked The Ultimate Warrior in a coffin, and they had to break him out, give him CPR, and attached him to a defribilator. All very scary stuff for a 7 year old, who didn’t know it was fake.

I immediately thought that by saying repeatedly “I WANNA BE A WRESTLER”, I had already made my career plans, I started saying “I DON’T WANNA BE A WRESTLER! I DON’T WANT TO BE A WRESTLER!”, crying, and being a very irrational 7 year old. Even after my mum shattered the illusion that The Undertaker probably owns a car, is called ‘Brad’, and is actually a very nice man down the shops, I was not convinced.

So I thought of a way out.

I would be tag team champions with Hulk Hogan.

Simple! He likes fighting, he can do all of it, I’d just stand in the corner, smiling gormlessly. We’d never lose.

As of today, I’m yet to be Tag Team Champion.

What did you want to be when you were all grown up?

Bless you. I have never ever watched wrestling – all a bit homoerotic.

When I was about 5 I wanted to be a princess. I was even devestated when we came to England for a holiday that year and I caught chicken pox – you filthy diseased British people – and I couldn’t go to Windsor Castle because I was so ill and I cried because I wouldn’t get to meet Prince William and I’d never become a princess.

I then went on to want to be a Marine Biologist, an architect, an actress and an interior designer.

I think there was a point where I also wanted to be a pro wrestler… maybe we could team up and put the smack down on peoples asses

    wooooo

  3. Rhys says:

Ryan: YOU can do that, I’ll be cowering in the corner!

  4. nAl says:

I wanted to be rich. Matter of fact, I still do.

  5. Tilesey says:

The Ultimate Warrior’s real name is Bryan. Heh heh heh.

I always wanted (and still want) to be an astronaut – hence the degree in physics with space science… A completely unrealisable dream being English (a country with NO SPACE PROGRAM to speak of), but never mind!

  6. Celeste says:

Plus you’re an old man – what with going greay an all……….(I told you so) ;-)

  7. Debbie says:

I really really wanted to be on the bomb disposal squad for ages when I was a kid. Then I changed my mind to meteorologist or vet (both of which required maths and chemistry which I suck at) so I then wanted to work in the field of behavioural analysis (at about 14) and that is what I am still working on now.
I used to watch a bit of wrestling from time to time because my brothers were very into it, I stopped around the time Owen Hart fell to his death while being lowered into the arena because that scared me quite a bit.

  8. Han says:

Fighter pilot – still do want to be one!

  9. Tilesey says:

    Celeste: OI!

You were the one that gave me the grey hairs! Nerrrrr

  10. Rhys says:

Tilesey: Incidentally, The Ultimate Warrior’s real name is actually The Ultimate Warrior. He got in a legal dispute with the WWF about his merchandising rights, and exploited a loophole that if he really changed his name to it, they couldn’t exploit “The Ultimate Warrior” without paying him royalties.

  11. Celeste says:

Tilesey – yeah right – nothing to do with teh fact that you are pretty much 30. :-P

  12. Rhys says:

Haven’t you london types got more important things to do such as….buy and sell African Countries?

  13. Tilesey says:

    Cel – Whatever, I’m still hot. :-)

    Rhys – Heh, nah….

  14. Celeste says:

Hmmm debatable. Before when you weren’t old sure but now…. X

  15. Manuel says:

I wanted to be a teacher. Then I became a teacher. Then I hated it for a variety of reasons including my student stabbing me with his pencil. I am no longer a teacher.

  16. Guy says:

I’ve always wanted to be a crime scene forensic scientist… it’s a shame im rubbish at science!

my latest ambitions include becoming a good surfer – i have a feeling ive cracked a rib thou after my last outing! I shouldn’t be in pain over a week later!
