It’s amazing how things can cheer you up.
I was feeling a little run down after work, the financial implications of paying for my holiday hit me hard. In other words, my credit card bill came today.
One Word. Ouch.
Happily, I was cheered up when I got home to work, when I realised that I wasn’t the only financially irresponsible member of the household. Oh no. As well as myself, Aled spunked away £300 on this little beauty.

Yes, an Xbox 360. Arguably Microsoft’s finest hour.
It’s 2nd hand, but with his 300 notes he got Pro Evolution Soccer 6 (wahey!), Gears of War (meh) and A faceless Need for Speed game (boo!).
Frankly, whilst it will be fun, I’m happy with my Wii. It just seems more fun, rather than serious Microsoft. I’m still loving Mario Strikers Charged Football, even after a month since I purchased it. It’s been ages since a game has laste me that long.
Incidentally, I haven’t actually played it yet, but what I’m looking forward to is for Al to get it online, so I can answer two questions.
- Was I really that good at Street Fighter 2, after beating every single male between the ages of 13 and 30 living in a 10 mile radius of Colwyn Bay?
- Was I really that good at Sensible Soccer, after beating every single male between the ages of 13 and 30 living in a 10 mile radius of Colwyn Bay?
These questions must be answered.
Another question that must be answered is an obscure one. Basically, my dad brought home some fruit, and we had no idea what it was. I’d appreciate it if any of you could identify it, as you’re far more culinary diverse than I’ll ever be.

Any ideas to this rather phallic item?
Finally, Exoclick (they have a banner up there, so I thought I’d give them a shout out in a post) informed me recently that they are offering free $10 worth of advertising if you sign up and reply to this thread on Digital Point Forums. By the looks of it, Exoclick is like Adsense, so if you’ve been banned from there, or are just wanting more people to read your blog, why not give them a go? I’ve got the free advertising, but probably won’t put more adverts on my blog, plus I don’t thing google’d be too happy.
Right, I must go and wash off the whore dirt from my body. I feel so dirty with all those affiliate links!

It’s either a marrow of some kind or a melon of some kind. What’s inside when you cut it lengthways down the middle? Enquiring minds need to know!
Also, why did he buy it if he didn’t know what it was? :).
I would say it is a zucchini. Zucchinis you can find in different shapes and this seems to be a round one. Zucchinis are part of the pumpkin family. By the way, pumpkins are not vegetables, what most people think. Botanically they are considered to be berries, which means that they are fruits.
I remember when I was a kid, running around in paddocks and things (I’m from the country) and those things (the nameless obscure fruit) used to be all over the place. Haven’t seen one in years though.
I was told that they were poisonous, so we used to pick them up and throw them around. They were great for swinging around over your head and letting go, could get some good distance on them.
We also used to enjoy destroying them with rocks and sticks… because destroying things is fun when you’re a kid!
As to what it is… I have no idea.
@Torsten its not a cucumber! I know what it is but I’m too hungover to care to think what it is right now!
Your brother will be kicking himself when the xbox 360’s price is lowered to compete with the wii - and get halo3! its fantastic!
I don’t think zucchinis are cucumbers… they are courgettes….
Is it a fruit or veg. If it’s a veg then it’s a marrow of somekind. It looks a touch African.
It looks a bit fig like too.
My immediate thought was a pomegranate, but looking at images on google makes me think otherwise
I think I bought one ages ago.. but I’ve forgotten what it’s called. Some kind of squash maybe??
Nothing beats Wiis.. I found the original xbox too hard to control. But I’m not too good at these things. Wii tennis though I’ll kick anyone’s arse. Good luck with the saving!
I plan on buying a Wii soon, as soon as I catch one on the shelf in one of my local stores. I can’t believe they’re still selling out so quickly!
I think the produce is a gourd or squash. It could also be a deformed zucchini…the color, patterns, and stem look an awful lot like one except for the shape.
Yep, I’m going with zucchini.
I’m definitely more of a Wii person. Soon they will have online play which should help bridge that gap.
I think you hit the nail on the head. XBox is serious, Wii is fun. Does playstation even exist anymore? I don’t know a single person with a PS3.
When I have a little time to play, the Wii does a great job of meeting my needs. I’m looking forward to Wii Music, Wii Fit, and Mario Kart Wii!
Dude, if you think that fruit is phallic, you need to see a doctor. Fast.
Re Tom’s post:
Can’t believe I missed that. Yeah, wouldn’t like to know what Rhys has hiding in his trousers!

Looks like its a round marrow then. I googled that ass
I’m going with Rachel and Torsten: they are Zucchinis
Rhys, you do realise that zucchuni is just the American word for courgette? Like diaper / nappy
What? Really? You crazy yanks should learn English!
In fact zucchini and courgette are the same, yes!
Courgette is the french word for it and it is used also in Netherlands. Zucchini comes from the italian word ‘zuccha” which means ‘pumpkin’ and ‘zucchina’ is just the “nice word” meaning ‘little pumpkin’. So the origin of the word is italian, which is used as ‘zucchini’ in a lot of other languages.
Excoclick sounds good, but I’m still with Adsense; I’m almost at my 3rd $100!
Sorry about that, if you were waiting for a reply!
(I can still receive emails, because I have email forwarding to another account.)
About guest blogging, my email server crashed, and I was literally waiting for it to un-crash.
So if you would like to write the post now and send it (keep a backup copy just in case!) to my email address grace@neonscent.com I can timestamp it for a later date. (You can put your own links in, your own biography, etc.)
I signed up and then went to the thread, signed up and then realized it was over. Well, I would have signed up anyway.
[...] Rhys talks about Xbox 360’s, free advertising, and some strange phallic fruit. [...]
I don’t know how SFII will be online, but I played SFIII and the itty bitty lag I experienced changed the whole game. (SFIII really requires spot on timing for the whole thing to work).
Hi, i came from stumble. This fruit is very popular in brazil. In fact , in brazil when you say someone is talking nonsense you say he’s talking abobrinha (wich is Zucchini in portuguese )
Its also that food that you used to hate when you were a kid and your mom made you eat
Got to be a melon
I hear so many good things about the XBox, and I have yet to get one myself. Maybe with my first AdSense check I can finally join in the fun!
