I had a rather fun, if exhausting weekend. Friday night was a mate’s birthday, so that, mixed in with after work drinks, made me very tired and delicate on Saturday morning, where there was a call to arms. “Get down to Llanelian Road, and bring a pitchfork and squeegees, we need to drain the water from the pitch.”. Like most of the UK, we’ve had torrential rain recently, though with hills and not being built on a flood plain, we’ve escaped flooding, short of a few back roads closed.

However, the situation looked grim at midday for the football. This was the one game we didn’t want canceled. Wrexham are a professional side, and the biggest team in North Wales. Luckily though, in less than ideal conditions, the officials said the game would go ahead.

600 odd people turned up (including regular reader John Boy and ace football blogger Tom) and we more than held our own against a strong Wrexham side, drawing 1-1. There was even a guy from the BBC there, who wrote a (Wrexham bias) match report here.

Thought it may not always be.

You see, one of the ways in which the club can raise vital funds is a renaming of the stadium. A lot of clubs do it at our level, as well as higher up the footballing pyramid. That, along with the release of the Corporate brochure, has been the main discussion on The Seagulls Messageboard. Personally, it doesn’t bother me if we can get some money from renaming the stadium, it’s still Llanelian Road to me.

The other area of heated discussion has been “If money was no object, what would you rename Llanelian Road to?”. A few people would pay a sizable wedge to keep it as Llanelian Road, personally I’d go for “The Gospel According To Rhys Says You Can Stick The League of Wales Up Your Arse Sideways Stadium”.

So, over to you. If you were to sponsor a sports stadium, arena or general building (use your imagination), which building would it be, and what would you rename it to?
