You can totally suss them out and decide if you want to take things further before even really contacting them. Then it's REALLY easy to flirt over the net, as it is quite non-imposing, because they check it in their own time, so you aren't ever interrupting their day. If they aren't keen, you'll find out fairly early so no time is wasted going out when it's not going to get you anywhere. Call me a power geek... but I have picked up (or been picked up) by erm... more than I'll say here, through MySpace and Facebook (more so MySpace, because I'm only just getting into Facebook).
