What’s Your Favourite Christmas Song?

A week today, it’ll be Christmas.

Are you excited yet?

I believe that sane people have a favourite Christmas song, that gets you all smiling and happy and worked up like you were as a child.

Of course, I’m not sane. I have two.

The two are “All I Want For Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey, but only when I’m drunk, as it makes me dance like a loon. When I’m not drunk, or in a more melancholy mood (and certainly my favourite) is “One More Sleep Till Christmas” by Kermit The Frog.

Here’s a youtube video of it, which some cock has decided to splice with some Sonic footage. Just close your eyes, and listen.

Seriously. “One More Sleep Till Christmas” gets me in a Christmassy mood, as mum used to ban me from watching The Muppets Christmas Carol until it was Christmas Eve (apart from the time I was “researching” my role as Scrooge in Ysgol Pen-Y-Bryn’s 1994 Panto. I fucking ruled – though aptly supported by Sibz’s role as Tiny Tim). I heard it last night, and I’m officially excited. Well, as much as a 23 year old who’s planning to spend the festive period drinking obscene amounts of alcohol.

What your favourite Christmas song, and why (if there’s a story behind it)?

Probably the song from the movie Christmas Vacation, which is, aptly named, Christmas Vacation. No real reason, just the movie itself gets me in the Christmas mood.

  2. John Boy says:

I do believe it was the star performance of the younger scrooge which stole the show, or which was the case according to my parents, who never lie to me. Father christmas is coming next week, I can’t wait. I must be asleep though or he won’t come.

Chrsitmas songs? The Pogues – Fairy Tale of New York… Quality tune.

I have a song AND an advert! The coca cola advert makes me feel christmassy and my favourite Christmas song is Shakin Steven’s Merry Christmas because it’s the song we sang at the end of my first ever stage performance (minus all my school plays obv.). It was panto and I was Cinderella. It makes me remember how brilliat I felt after the first night’s performance.

  4. Rhys says:

    You’re wrong!

The proper christmassy advert was the toys r us one (which, like the Coke, has changed to something horribly bland). You know the one!

    There’s a magical place
    We’re on our way there
    With Toys in a million
    All Under One Roof

    It’s Called TOYS R US!

    Soon after bedtime
    Where dark night times fall
    Geoffery and helpers
    Stack up all the shelves

    With ceiling to floors
    Push buggies and bikes
    Toys and doll houses
    Fishes and trikes

    There’s millions and geoffery
    All under one roof
It’s called Toys r us, toys r us, toys r us!

You need to get out more.

Nah Toys R Us advert has different centiment to me. The Toys R Us in SA was a 2 hour drive away and it was HUGE. We’d make a special trip there after Birthdays to spend our Birthday money.

  6. Webomatica says:

Fave: Karen Carpenter – Merry Christmas Darling ….

  7. Tom Hawkey says:

I saw mommy fisting Santa Claus – Tommie Connor

  8. Bush Mackel says:

Well alls I know is that I love Charlie Brown Christmas and the soundtrack to the first Home Alone. *nod*

  9. Guy says:

Bing Crosby – White Christmas…. reminds me of whole family being there for Christmas.. happy times :)

  10. Manuel says:

Adam Sandler’s Hannakauh song by far!

  11. Matik says:

    Last christmas is my favourite:)

  12. Debbie says:

Mine have to be the Pogues and probably Driving home for Christmas by Chris Rea.
My local radio station decided that as from Dec 1st they would play nothing but Christmas songs all day every day and it killed my liking for quite a few.
Toys R’ Us ad music is classic! That makes me really christmassy along with the Coke ones.

  13. G-Man says:

Definitely Alvin and the Chipmunks. That’s my favorite CD for Christmas.

    G-Man

  14. Melissa says:

Probably The Pogues, because it’s got swearing in it. Yes, I’m that easily amused.
