I have been beavering away for the past few weeks with the realaunching of one of my blogs, Retro Garden. Retro Garden was first designed nearly a year ago when I bought the domain, I say designed, it was a cheap and nasty wordpress template, that did little for me, and I ended up forgetting to update it and it died a quick death. Learning from the experience, I have relaunched it last week.

I did a bit of a soft launch, so this is my…err…harder launch. What I aim to focus with this blog is the following:

  • Game Reviews – This’ll be the big one. I have played thousands of games in my time. Some have been brilliant, some have been rubbish. Some games I feel that were completely undeserved of their media hype, other games didn’t get the recognition they deserved. I am going to try and educate people on these games.
  • Game Features - As well as reviews, I also plan on doing a few features, both useful ones (such as “How to Replace The Battery on Your Sega Saturn” and fun ones.
  • Game News - I’m not planning on making it a “News Blog”, but if any stories take my eye, I will blog about it.

There’s more I want to stick there, but that’s all I want to do at the moment. See how it go. But I need some publicity for it. So it’s time for one of these:

resistancefom.jpgRetro Garden’s Awesome Competition
As a blog dedicated to retro games, I feel games nowadays are rather redundant. So, for a quick competition, you can win the relative new game Playstation 3 Game: Resistance – Fall of Man (NTSC). It was the game that pissed off Catholicism in only a way that my Chucked-Out-Of-The-Vatican arse can only dream of. For that, it’s awesome, but it got a number of critically awesome reviews.

But this is not just any copy of the game, oh no. This is a game formally owned by legendary blogger John Cow. Proof can be provided if you want to (if you consider “Proof” to be an envelope with “This game used to be the property of John Cow, mooooo!” written on it), but trust me on this, it did.

So, how do you win? Well, write a blog post on Retro Garden of any length, linking to the site (you can use the Link To Us! resources if you wish), and also to this competition post. You get 2 entries if you write it separate from another post, and 1 entry if it’s included within another post. On Easter Monday, I will draw a name out of a easter basket, they will win the game. They will also win 200 E****card points, and I’ll see what else I can sort out.

One other rule: entrants must be from “decent blogs”. I know there’s a bunch of “contest blogs” out there who’s sole purpose is to enter contests. Generally I won’t be accepting these unless I consider you a worthwhile blog with a bit of activity (I’m going on this list as “Worthwhile”, but it’s not definitive).

Questions in the comment box below. Good luck!

In Other News
I may or may not post on Monday. I’m going to Liverpool for the weekend for a bit of Capital of Culture drinking. Full report possibly on Monday or Tuesday. Have a good weekend!

I didn’t really like Resistance, I couldn’t stand the whole 1940s/futuristic thing. Didn’t do it for me. Maybe if the weapons were more realistic for the time, then it would’ve been better. But modern weapons, historic setting, and futuristic opponent… meh.

Call Of Duty 4. Enough said.

I’m off to play Halo 3 and whoop some alien arse with futuristic weapons, in a futuristic sense. Woo!

  4. Ryan says:

I am rubbish at computer games, despite my best efforts. btw Wales have just won the triple crown. I have no idea what that is, but I am very proud.
