Today one of the most eagerly awaited games come out for the Wii - Mario Kart.
Well, it just for us and the Japs, you Americans will have to wait until later this month.
I have been watching the release of Mario Kart with incredible interest. I love the games, my way of dispelling road rage is to simply smirk at any driver who cuts me up “I could so use a red shell”, and I spent about three days with SEUCK on the Commodore 64 making a Mario Kart clone. I loved the game.
Later versions just got better (it fixed the most horrible part of the first game - the fact that the same guy finished first, second, third and fourth each time), and I thought that the Gamecube version was the pinnacle of the series.
Then I saw the wheel that they were planning on including, increasing the field from 8 to 12 drivers, and - most importantly - Online mode, and I was whetting my appetite. Saving up manically so I have enough money to purchase it.
But last week I’ve gone off it.
You see, the amount of people have been saying that the actual game isn’t that good. Multiplayer is said to feature only four players (yet other have said it’s fully 12), the series suffers from last player handicap again, and Americans are complaining on the wheel (note to them, learn to drive on the right - as in correct - side of the road).
That being said, similar criticism was levelled against both Mario Kart 64 and Mario Kart: Double Dash, saying it wasn’t as good as the original. Whilst the original was fun, whenever I return to play it now I generally play for a bit and return to Double Dash or 64.
So, is it worth getting? Are you getting it?

Left hand FTW. ;]
Still trying to get my hands on a Wii. Looks pretty interesting. I’d try it.
I’ve loved all the Mario Karts, since SNES. I believe that N64’s version will always be my personal favorite.
Yeah I have to agree with Brandy - Mario Kart 64 has given me hours upon hours of entertainment. Although I never actually played Double-Dash, so I really can’t comment on it.
Some classics just can’t be replaced. Like GoldenEye on the N64. That was absolutely amazing when it first came out. The only thing now which is bigger is Halo.
Yet someday we will look back on these games and talk about how amazing they were - and our children will roll their eyes and laugh at us. Bastards.
You should get it. Online mode is a lot of fun!
I loved the n64 v and of course I still play the gamecube version. I dont think I’ll bother getting it - at least not for a while. I’m more inclined to get PES for some reason! It looks really good lol - and hannah playable!
Ordered it and will be getting it later on! Even get an extra wheel free with mine so me and Chris are set to battle it out tonight.
All the reviews i’ve seen were all good, where did u see a bad one?
Just hope the online mode is better than the DS version.

Nay, looks rubbish. I don’t like Mario games…
Crap! I didn’t think it was out until May…
I ordered it last night after seeing this post. :p
It looks really fun. I guess I’d have to get a Wii first.
[...] Forgive me Mario - for I should never had doubted you. [...]
I think it looks awesome. I’m going to try to pick it up this weekend!
Do it, it’s brill!
