I've just secured a mortgage for myself - somewhat a rarity for a 24 year old in the current climate - and I'm being totally raped with the fees and interest rate. It seems that because the banks were so happy to dish out money to credit-happy people, those who've grafted and saved their money now have to struggle to purchase houses. If, in the long run, this means banks are more cautious about lending money then that has to be a good thing. In the short term, however, we're all feeling the pinch. Oil prices of course have a knock on effect on everything, with both at once it is crippling the economy, I fear.

I agree with you, websites are a good thing to do in these times. when people feel the pinch they wanna make sure they get their moneys worth so a company that needs a website will be more careful in choosing a firm to do it, with good word of mouth and good quality output a person can make a good income from it.

I do some work for a computer component distributor and I've noticed a lot of companies going under because of lack of credit availability, everything is getting more expensive because it costs more to get it in the shops so we'll start getting paid more which will up the price of everything again and before you know it, you're drinking at 11am outside Colwyn bay :-/

I do notice the big R but happily, it's not really affecting me. in fact I take silent glee everytime I hear that house prices are dropping so that by the time I get around to getting one in a couple of years, I know the only way is up for the price!

oh, pass your test before you move out. it makes life so much more sweet.. plus, you feel more grown up with a car outside your pokey flat!

Worry? What is the point? I can do nothing about it. Therefore I get on to the best of my ability. Just like you. Great philosophy that.

All the best for your long term plans. Sounds interesting.

It is a bit of a worry honestly. I work in an industry that should be realativeley safe (machinery maintenance for the postal service) however my wife works in retail management which can be a bit more volitle.

Biggest real impact so far is the cancelation of this years vacation in favor of paying off debt. That way we are in a better position if things do go south.

Oh, and by the way congrats on the decision to move out.

Well considering I work in sales of electronic goods... it'll hurt my commission if I'm still in the industry. Which will suck, my commission is worth about $10,000 a year at least. Sounds a lot... but it's like, more than a third of my overall pay, so I kinda need it.
