The most painful two weeks ever in sport is finished.

I tell a lie, it’s not a sport. A sport you either have to go fast, tackle hard, or have tremendous aim to hit targets. In tennis you don’t do any of these. Instead you grunt, and hit balls over a net.

Where’s the skill in that?

The women’s game is basically there to make rude noises and to showcase foreign women in unbelievably short skirts. I can get that in Broadway in Llandudno for fucks sake. Even so, there were two men’s finals this week.

And the men’s game is even worse! Everybody complains that there are only a handful of teams  that can win the Premiership. That may be true, but nobody’s unbeatable. In tennis, it’s either one of two to win. How interesting is that? It’s obvious that only those two (Nadal and Federer) win because they’re the only two who can be bothered to train. I mean, Andy Murray only started playing tennis because he couldn’t play football.

And you can’t even get pissed to it like proper sports such as cricket. It’s over in 5 hours, and what can you drink? Pimms. Bloody posh man’s drink, for a posh man’s game, that nobody outside of London gives an arse about.

Tennis is only popular because health and safety laws means you can’t play football 52 weeks a year.

I hate tennis. Do you like tennis?

I watch it now and again. I thought the men’s final was enthralling and there was a lot of skill shown but I suppose you have to know more about the game to appreciate it. :P

Still, it’s nothing over football. :D

I’m guessing you’ve never played tennis?! To call it just hitting a ball over a net is very narrow minded really… it’s one of the most skillful sports going. A lot of people will look at football as just kicking a piece of air-filled leather into a net. No real skill in kicking a ball.

I’d recommend you go have a game of tennis and see just how hard it is, let alone trying to return a serve coming at you at roughly 120mph!!

Im not a massive fan of the sport but you shouldn’t take anything away from the people that play it. ALso think its different having the top teams in the premiership to the top 2 in tennis. Federer is pretty much the best tennis player of all time, no money will buy him to another club or anything like that. It’s his own ability that has made him the best in the world on many disciplines! Being able to transfer skills to use on different surfaces (ok his clay isn’t his best and Nadal does seem to piss over that every time) is something footballers don’t have to do!

You’ve got me riled on a monday morning welshy! As for the drinking thing, it’s not that sort of sport. you can go up to wimbledon and get pissed whilst watching the outside courts thou and its really good to go watch! you should try it one year :P

I’m not too fond of sports per say, but my mom’s quite fond of Federer. She likes his polite manners!

I like watching Wimbledon but I don’t watch any of the other tennis competitions. I like the fact that the best grand slam in tennis, the one they all want to win is here in the UK! :)

If you haven’t tried playing it before then I suggest you do, you’ll have more appreciation for the sport. I’d go as far to say football is a lot easier to play and become proficient at than tennis. Probably why football is so big round the world!

But then again I’m just a sports fan in general, if there is competition involved then I’m interested! I’m already planning on a trip down to Wimbledon next year. :)

Maybe if you actually watched a game you would see the players do “go fast” and need to “have tremendous aim to hit targets” as the number of shots that hit the line testify. As a previous comment said maybe you should take up the game before commenting on the lack of skill. Anyone, with even the smallest appreciation of the skill involved, would say yesterdays final was one of the most exciting, skilful sporting events ever.
“they’re the only two who can be bothered to train” yea right!
Going by your definition of a sport could you explain in cricket where the hard tackling is?

If you’ve been to Wimbledon you do enjoy it more when it’s on TV, but even if you haven’t - Wimbledon is great!!

Wrong, wrong, wrong…

They’re turning against you! ha ha

Yeah man, tennis is great! And I’m not sure what you mean by not having to have aim to hit targets because it takes aim to put the ball where you want it to. Anyway, try playing it some time. You might like it - And not a real sport? That would be golf friend.

wow wow wow wow wow wow woooooooow!

Golf is just as much a sport as anything else! its actually quite good exercise and to be good takes amazing skill!!!! if you played it, you’d know!

bowling.. thats not a sport, and i used to play it waaay too much! :D

The mens’ final was amazing tennis. Thought it was gonna go on all night. :o)

More exciting than men running around a field chasing a ball. At least tennis stars follow the rules and don’t fake injuries to cheat an easy shot on goal because they’re lacking in “tremendous aim to hit targets” like footballers do.

hehe. x x x

I don’t get the game. I hate tennis. It’s boring to watch and can last for, what feels like forever. Nothing beats football, I tell you that =)

Not a sport? Crazy man! Besides being on the soccer team in high school, I was also on the tennis team. It is a great sport and requires much skill.
