A story that got me interested this week was a story on Eurovision going back to Jury Voting. I love Eurovision, it’s a great competition, but I don’t think that this is a great idea.

A number of UK’ers have been thinking “Phew! What a relief! No Eastern Bloc voting!”, and it’s true, it does lead to certain countries very close to each other voting for one another.
But here’s a thought – ever think that countries that are based near each other have similar tastes in music? A lot of the countries didn’t exist 20 years ago, so it’s no surprise that they have similar music tastes.
Of course, part 2 is obvious – the UK produce rubbish songs. These are the songs since 2005
2005: Javine – Touch My Fire
2006: Daz Sampson – Teenage Life (I actually secretly liked this one, and have it on my Eurovision Mix on my MP3 Player)
2007: Scooch – Flying the Flag For You
2008: Andy Abraham – Even If
They’re all pretty rubbish. Everybody’s heard in the UK of “Making Your Mind Up” by Bucks Fizz (one of our winners), I’m sure you probably don’t remember at least 2 of those songs.
So, we’re crap, and most of the nation knows it. I don’t watch it to win, I use it to get ideas on where to travel to, and more importantly, to get drunk with mates. So leave it as it is, and I’ll still watch it, drunken, dressed up like our Eurovision cousins.
What are your thoughts on Eurovision?
