Liverpool Beer Festival 2009

liverpoolbeerfest

Last weekend (yes, all of 4 days ago!) I went to the CAMRA Liverpool Beer Festival 2009. We got the prized 12-4 afternoon drinking session, which allowed us to go out afterwards, if we so felt.

I’ve only ever been to one beer festival before – and that was Oktoberfest – so I didn’t really know what to expect. I imagined it’d be more civilized. I was right, it was traditional British music and dancing (Morris Dancing), traditional British food (Pork Pies and Cheese), and the most important thing – traditional British beer.

I’m not sure how many there were but there was a lot, including some I’ve drunk before. However, I didn’t drink the whole lot. You drink half pints, and I only had 9 of them. They were varying in strength (3.5% to 8%) and tastes. A lot of them were pretty strong tasting, which is nice as I’ve been drinking piss weak lager for the last few weeks.

All in all, with the exception of my mate towards the end rather drunkenly leaving the Crypt (will say no more), it was a good weekend.

And this weekend’ll be the same! I’m off to Leeds to see my darling brother. Can’t wait!
